The Kaleidoscope Collection is the latest range created for Baaliyan by Katy.
While this collection is of course based on an origami pattern, the name Kaleidoscope was chosen to reflect how it contained a multitude of different colours, patterns and shapes. Unless the paper is a solid single color, it will not be possible to replicate it both within the pair and in another pair. The many different small parts which make up this earring remind us of how a shape continuously shifts all of its elements in one single view point.
The Kaleidoscope was invesnted in 1817 by David Brewster and the name is derived from the Greek kalos "beautiful" + eidos "shape" + scope, which is shortened from telescope.
The various colors and forms in a kaleidoscope can symbolize your escape in a time of difficulty and self-doubt. As it constantly changes through the turn of the kaleidoscope and the pattern is destroyed, it will gradually reveal something new and beautiful once more. There are times in our lives were we may continuously feel challenged and things may fall apart. With the right tools and view point, we have the ability to be put everything back together again - and while it may not look exactly like our previous reality, the new one could be equally beautiful and enticing.
I had experimented with a few other origami folds before settling on this one. The process however of cutting and piecing together something which previously looked so simple and now looks more complex and so beautiful guided me to focus on this particular style.
They have been varnished with a special sealant which protects them against humid weather conditions and also creates a hardened surface which prevents the paper from wearing down easily. All earring hooks used are Nikel free which also makes them hypoallergenic. If you are like many members of my family and have sensitive ears, the earring hooks can easily be replaced so you can still wear your favorite pair of earrings.
All Kaleidoscope earrings currently come in a small and medium size and are extremely lightweight.
Designs and quantities will vary throughout the year and only a limited number of each will be available so if you like a pair please do get in touch as soon as possible.
